Hey beauties! If you are living with Type 4, kinky, coily hair you know that it can be prone to breakage due to dryness if not properly cared for.  In this blog post, we will discuss 10 tips to help manage dry type 4 hair at home, incorporating natural ingredients like herbal hair water, and hair oils to nourish and strengthen your hair.

1. Use a sulfate-free shampoo: Start by using a gentle sulfate-free shampoo to cleanse your hair without stripping it of its natural oils. This will help maintain moisture levels in your hair. Shampoo your hair 3 times to remove all buildup and residue.

2. Deep condition regularly: Don’t rush and skip this step! Deep conditioning is crucial for type 4 hair to keep it hydrated and moisturized. Incorporate a rich deep conditioner into your routine at least once a week to nourish your strands.  Deep condition the hair for at least 30 minutes under a hooded dryer for the best result.

3. Apply a leave-in conditioner and a moisturizer: After shampooing your hair, use a leave-in conditioner to help seal in moisture and keep your hair hydrated throughout the day. Add a moisturizer to further seal in moisture. This will help reduce frizz and maintain moisture levels.

4. Avoid heat styling tools: Type 4 hair is prone to dryness, so minimize the use of heat styling tools will help to prevent further damage.

5. Herbal hair water: Incorporate a herbal hair water. We recommend a hair water made with natural ingredients.  Browsugarglam Collection has an herbal water, know as Scalp Tonic.  This tonic is made with natural ingredients such as fenugreek seeds, lavender, and hibiscus flower to nourish your hair, scalp and promote hair growth.

6. Hair growth oil: Use a hair growth oil scalp treatment oil to strengthen your hair and nourish your scalp. We recommend Brownsugarglam Collection Scalp Treatment oil. This oil is formulated with ingredients like olive oil, rosemary oil, and vitamin E to promote healthy hair growth.

7. Protective styling: Consider incorporating protective styles like braids or twists to minimize manipulation and reduce breakage. These styles can help protect your hair from environmental damage.  Try heatless hairstyles like protective styles like wash n gos, flat twists, styles protect your hair.

8. Use a satin or silk pillowcase: Switch to a satin or silk pillowcase to prevent friction and breakage while you sleep. These materials are gentle on your hair and can help maintain moisture levels.

9. Stay hydrated and eat a balanced diet: Drinking plenty of water and eating a balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals is essential for healthy hair growth from within. Your hair reflects your overall health, so nourish your body to nourish your hair.

10. Regular trims: Lastly, don’t forget to trim your ends regularly to get rid of split ends and promote overall hair health. Trimming your hair every few months will help maintain the health of your hair and prevent breakage.
