The button is how you get this to work, after it heats up you push the button and the steam comes out.

This part is where you add the water, which is how it steams.  I like to add bottle water, because I feel that it is better for the appliance.  I notice that tap water can cause calcium build up in many appliances. As the water heats up, a red light blinks until the steamer is ready to use.  Once the steamer is ready to use, the red light remains steady.
