How many of you guys are here for wigs? I have been wearing wigs for years and I am loving this option. When I decide to give my curls a break from daily handling and daily maintenance I go to my wig for protection. I have been natural for 4 years, and this journey has been simplified because of wigs. Here are 5 reasons why wigs are great for protecting natural hair.
Wigs make the transition to natural hair easier
Because I was not into my big chop look, I decided to wear a wig in the beginning. I wore my wigs for one solid year, which was a great option for me. I did not have to figure out what to do with my hair during this process.

I wanted my hair to grow, so from time to time, I would wear a wig. Under my wig, I always keep my hair cleansed, moisturized, and I apply oil. I always notice how my hair grows a bit when wearing a wig. Because less of my hair came out, (less shedding) the hair was able to retain more length threw low manipulation.

Yes, the less I bother with my hair the better the growth. Low manipulation styles like wigs allow the hair the get a break from daily handling. So braid it up, and forget it. Your hair will thank you later.

Leave that flat iron alone lol. Flat iron that wig instead, and let your natural curls remain hydrated. Heat damage is so serious. When I first started wearing my natural after one year of growth, I started flat ironing my hair. Such a bad decision. As a stylist, I should have known better, really.
But, I was not sure if I liked my hair in its natural state. Because I had worn my hair straight for so many years, it was quite an adjustment. Well, this is where wigs come in. Instead of straightening those beautiful curls, let them rest under your straight wig. I had to cut my hair again after straightening it because of heat damage- a hard lesson learned.
