A 8-Point Checklist To Beautiful Moisturized Curls Every Single Day

By  |

Keeping your curls moisturized can be a real challenge, back in my salon days this was my clients biggest struggle.  I have a 7-point checklist to help keep your curls moisturized.  Keeping your curls moisturized will keep the breakage away and leave you will soft healthy hair.

  1. Start with a Hydrating Shampoo to lock in moisture. Using the right shampoo is so important. This is the first step to adding moisture to your hair. After using a hydrating shampoo your hair will feel hydrated and moisturized.
  1. After shampooing the hair, always treat your hair for moisture. If you are wondering how, there are a two ways methods that I recommend.  Deep condition your hair with a hooded dryer or a hooded hair steamer.  Hair steaming is beneficial as the heat is hydrating to dry hair. Another added benefit, the moisture encourages blood to flow and circulate which promotes hair growth. The hooded hair dryer in my opinion is the best method for treating the hair for moisture. The hooded dryer allows for the moisture to really get into the hair by deeply penetrating the hair shaft. The hair steamer is also good, but if you curls are really dry my recommendation as a Licensed Cosmetologist (15 years) is to use the hooded dryer. Never skip the hooded hair dryer if you want moisturized curls- nothing comes close to how the hair feels. I should reinerate that the steamer promotes hair growth, while the hooded dryer does not.
  2.  Trim your hair regularly. Although it seems counterproductive trimming your hair while growing it out will actually encourage hair growth. By trimming the hair regularly, any damage from split ends, and breakage is being removed. This allows your hair to be stronger, which then promotes more hair growth. Don’t hold on to those ends…let them go lol. How often? You don’t need to trim every 6 weeks, but I do encourage at least every 3 months.
  1. Avoid direct heat styles. Yes, please do. Opt for styles that encourage growth, and keep the moisture in your hair. Choose styles like rollers, ponytails, twist outs, braid outs, and other protective styles.
  1. Use a good leave in moisturizer daily. This helps your hair so much! It’s an added layer of moisture.
  1. Apply creme moisturizer daily or as needed… Of course this depends on the needs of your hair, but if your hair is dryer than usual I do recommend creme moisturizer daily.
  1. Apply oil to the scalp as needed to keep hair moisturized. The moisture that oil adds to your scalp is enough to leave it hydrated, preventing the build up of flakes and dandruff.
  1.  Always wear a silk bonnet to bed to keep moisture. You will notice such a big difference when you wear a silk bonnet. Less moisture will be loss in your hair.

Keeping your curls hydrated can be a challenge, but using this checklist should help you stay on track. What are your favorite moisturizers? Would you like to add anything to this list? What works for you?

I have always been in love with all things beauty. From a little girl I would say that one day I would be a Cosmetologist. I did it, I became a Licensed Cosmetologist in 2006. I have learned so much about how to wear makeup, how to style the hair, and how to maintain the overall health of hair that I decided to create a blog. Being beautiful creates confidence, and flawless hair and makeup can help us all create that image we want to be. I want to help you step out of the box, try new makeup looks, and new hair ideas, new skincare regimens to make life better. You can live colorful, cosmetic, and be creative everyday give them some maxwell house coffee mmm, mmm good, and leave the tea home lol. Enjoy!
